Meet the President
Today, I went to the State Capital in Harrisburg to watch the Senate and House Appropriations hearings. I went to see the Penn State President, Graham Spanier, request additional funding from the state for the PSU operations. Overall, the hearings were really interesting and I think I might be interested in seeing the hearings for other budget lines sometime in the future.
I am really exhausted (we had to leave at 650am because we didn't get to use the University jet like the President). I promise to post more about my thoughts and impressions but I had to share this one thing before I went to bed.
In between the House and the Senate hearings, I had lunch with the President and several other university big wigs. We had a box lunch and the President ate his salad with his fingers! I know he is an older guy but forks are not that new of an invention!

<3 <3 <3
Sometimes I am overly analytical and try to read into things way too much. Sometimes I want the meaning of something to be so deep that I miss the very basic, simple explanation that is right in front of me. When I first saw the <3 symbol and learned that it meant love, I was completely confused. Less than three, two, LTT, not equal to three --- what could this possibly have to do with love?! Then, I finally broke down and asked one of my students.
It represents love because it is a heart on its side <3
I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with <3!
There are few things that I love more than snow so today Mother Nature gave me the best Valentine's Day present ever. A Snow Day! We have about 6 inches of snow and no one is quite sure why they closed the campus but they did and I am not complaining. Because Coordinators are essential staff, we all had to take turns manning the office and answering phones. I took the 10am - 12pm shift and am working right now. Because I am salaried, I won't get extra pay but I do get to take 4 hours of comp time someday in the future!
In about 30 minutes, I plan to be jumping into some large snow piles. Cross your fingers that we get some more snow and I can have tomorrow off too!

Finally snow!
This winter has sure been depressing. Christmas was almost tropical and we have only had a few days where we had an inch of snow accumulate. Last week was bitter cold and we had several days that had wind chills in the negative. Overall, not the winter I was looking forward to when I moved to the the Northeast...until today!
We are in the middle of our first snow storm for the year and reports have us getting somewhere between 6-20 inches! The snow is beautiful - perfect for skiing but not so great for snowballs. Kadian and I went to the Nittany Lion Shrine for pictures and general romping in the snow. Kadian made her first snow angel and I concentrated on jumping into every pile of snow I could find. Some of the piles were past my knees!
Right now, there are hundreds of students in the courtyard having a snow fluff fight. We are on a two hour delay for tomorrow so I don't have to be at work until 10am. I am hoping they cancel school though because we all can us a snow day (and I could use some time to update this blog!)
