What I Am Reading
I used to feel guilty when I looked at the piles of half read books in my apartment. It brought on feelings of failure. It further cemented the belief that maybe I am not able to finish anything. I can hear my mother talking about my inability to finish chores and craft projects when I was growing up but I have finally accepted that some books aren't worth finishing.
If I don't connect with the story, if I can't handle the writer's style, if I just can't get into the plot, I don't have to read it. It doesn't reflect on me. You don't have to eat a meal you don't like so why do you have to suffer through a book?
All of this ranting and acceptance was brought on by the latest book club read, "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao". The mood of the book was depressing and I decided I would rather read something else...anything else. So 160 some pages in, I set the book down and don't plan to read anymore.
Now I am reading "Eclipse" the third book in the "Twilight" series.
